Hi all, this would be Part 1 of my 3-part series post about Mindfulness Meditation. In Part 1, I will talk about my personal experience about mindfulness meditation. In the Part 2, we will discuss what is the fuzz about this whole mindfulness meditation thing and if it really works. Finally, in Part 3, I will post some videos and resources about meditation.
One of my favorite videos that I love sharing is a Ted Talk by Ande Puddicombe called All it takes is ten mindful minutes. Andy Puddicombe is one of the creators of Headspace, a mindfulness app. I am not a member of Headspace but I’ve done the free trial and so far so good, very simple. I use an app called Insight Timer which is free all the way, but if you really want to spend money and are interested in their membership (which I believe is worth it, given your budget) the yearly membership fee is only like $36. Right now, I am enjoying their free meditation guides.
So, I kind of went on this meditation practice mainly to find clarity and quiet my mind. Cliché as it sounds. If you’re like me, I have so much stuff to do. I have way too many responsibilities, way too many goals, way to many things in my to do list, way to many grocery lists and shopping lists that simply keep piling up and somehow never gets done, that I forget what really matters. I tend to overlook my real priorities in life.
Until meditation. About 10 minutes a day. Sometimes even less. Could be before I get up, could be during my 10 minute break, could be before I go to bed, which I admit I usually fall asleep after the first 5 minutes. But either way, I find time to quiet my mind, and in these moments are when I sort of get a light bulb or an aha moment about my so-called “signature path”. I hope I’m not starting to sound weird.
According to my Insight Timer profile, since November 23rd, 2018 (which is when I got started literally), I have now meditated for a total of 8 hours and 5 min, with a daily average of 17 minutes (really?) and an average session duration of 10 min (sounds about right!). The longest session duration I had is 34 minutes (I prolly fell asleep after the first 5-10 minutes of that).
So that is my progress so far. I’d like to say that I’m not perfect. It does take a good 21 days to create a habit which in my case I haven’t really gone on 21 days straight perfect. I’ve skipped 2-3 days a couple of times just because…life. But I somehow learned to just be semi-hard on myself…not too much. Ok I little bit harder but not all the way!
Anyways…this sums up my first post about my Mindfulness experience, I am proud to say that I am not completely there yet, and I still have voices in my head as I write this post. After all, it’s only been a month, so please…cut a sister some slack.
If you are interested in the app I use, I highly recommend Insight Timer. You can pick a meditation anywhere from 3 to 60 minutes (or more), depending on your mood, I say. Sorry I don’t have a link here but I will definitely check it out in the app store (Google or Apple)
And…if you are interested to find out about the next two posts in this Mindfulness Series, please subscribe, follow, whatever works. I put out posts every Monday (most Mondays, of course) and would really love to blow up your email! Thanks all.
And Merry Christmas as well!
Love and Light,
Wella 😊
